Young carers share their experiences in campus workshops

On 25 January, we hosted the first Greater Manchester Higher Young Carers Day, designed to celebrate young carers in our local area
Over 100 young carers from Greater Manchester came on to campus to take part in numerous different workshops to support educational progression, decision making, resilience and share their experiences of life as young carers.
The event, held on National Young Carers Awareness Day, allowed young people to understand what support universities have in place to help individuals with caring responsibilities and to give them the opportunity to interact with individuals studying at university, alongside being a young carer.
All of the young people who attended the event reported that as a result of attending they were now 'more likely to consider going to university’.
A film crew from ‘That’s Manchester’ TV station captured a short film which highlights the importance of supporting young people with caring responsibilities.
