The Works

Willmott Dixon was recognised by the Skills for Business Awards 2017 for its work a key partner in The University of Manchester’s Construction Academy. The Academy launched in 2015 to offer pre-employment training, apprenticeships and jobs in the construction industry for unemployed people across Greater Manchester.

In partnership with the Construction Academy, Willmott Dixon has supported over 30 economically inactive people into careers in the construction sector – to become active members of society and begin their careers and support their families.

The Academy operates via The Works, the University’s not-for-profit, award winning, employment and skills centre, working with construction partners to support Greater Manchester residents into the opportunities created by the Campus Masterplan, the University’s ten year scheme to create a world-class estate.

The University’s Assistant Director of HR Steve Grant, who developed the academy, said: “I am delighted that Wilmott Dixon has been recognised at the 2017 Skills for Business Awards. I have been very impressed by the company’s commitment to supporting the University to ensure that our campus development delivers local benefit by creating job opportunities for unemployed Greater Manchester residents.”
